Asheville-born Charles Frazier has spent much of his life, and based his books, in the Appalachian region. His first novel, Cold Mountain, received the National Book Award and was made into a major motion picture. He is the author of Thirteen Moons, Nightwoods, and Varina. His latest, The Trackers, is set in the Depression.
