Join us for our monthly poetry event featuring three poets. In January we welcome Brit Washburn, author of Notwithstanding, Katie Bowler Young, author of Through Water with Ease, and Jennifer Sperry Steinorth, author of A Wake with Nine Shades. All books will be available to purchase at the event.

Brit Washburn is a poet, yoga practitioner, vegan cook and mother of three, with a fourth child on the way, trying mightily to navigate her life with grace, gratitude, intelligence, and compassion.  She garners consolation and insight through daily readings and interactions, and offers her reflections on those experiences here, in the belief that we benefit from engaging with others around the theory and practice of being.

Katie Bowler Young is the author of Through Water with EaseState Street, and Enrique Alférez, forthcoming from The Historic New Orleans Collection. Katie earned an MFA in creative writing with a concentration in poetry from Warren Wilson College, where she was awarded the Lisel Mueller Scholarship and the Friends of Writers Scholarship. She earned a BA in communications from the University of New Orleans, with support from the Press Club of New Orleans. Katie is the director of global relations for UNC Global at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, overseeing global communications, international partnerships, cultural programming, and high-profile international events. Her work often focuses on art, culture, and place.

Jennifer Sperry Steinorth is a poet, educator, interdisciplinary artist, and licensed builder. Her poetry has appeared in Alaska Quarterly, Beloit Poetry Journal, The Colorado Review, jubilat, Michigan Quarterly Review, Mid-American Review, New Ohio Review, Poetry Northwest, Quarterly West and elsewhere. She has received grants from the Sewanee Writers Conference, The Vermont Studio Center, and Warren Wilson College where she received her MFA in poetry. Her most recent book, A Wake with Nine Shades, was published by Texas Review Press in 2019. A hybrid text of visual poetry/erasure is forthcoming from TRP in 2021.

This event is free and open to the public. We ask that you purchase the books you want to be signed at our events from Malaprop’s. When you do this you are not only supporting the work it takes to run an events program, you are also telling the publishers that they should keep sending authors here. Can’t make it to the store for the event? Call us or order the book on our website in advance, and we’ll get it signed for you. Make sure you write your preferences in the comments if you purchase online. Any
