Join internationally acclaimed cartoonist, author and educator Lynda Barry for a talk on how to reconnect with your own creative center while enjoying pizza and beer at the LR Asheville campus. A book signing will take place afterwards with Malaprop's Bookstore.
MacArthur Fellow Lynda Barry has worked as a painter, cartoonist, writer, illustrator, playwright, editor, commentator and teacher and found that they are very much alike. Barry is the inimitable creator behind the seminal comic strip “Ernie Pook’s Comeek,” featuring the incomparable Marlys and Freddy. She is the author of many books including One! Hundred! Demons!, The! Greatest! of! Marlys! and The Good Times are Killing Me, which was adapted as an off-Broadway play and won the Washington State Governor’s Award.
Barry is Professor in Interdisciplinary Creativity at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Chazen Family Distinguished Chair in Art. Her “Writing the Unthinkable” workshop—especially designed for non-writers—is the basis for her award-winning book What It Is. Barry has received numerous awards and honors, among them two William Eisner awards and the 2017 Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Cartoonists Society.
