Gardeners are becoming increasingly interested in learning about climate change -- both how it will affect them and what they can do in response. This book is aimed particularly at gardeners in the Southeastern U.S. Starting with a basic outline of climate change and the naturally occurring ecoregions in the Southeast, the book goes on to address dozens of ways in which readers can make their gardens more climate-friendly and ways of dealing with increased threats of flooding, drought, heat waves and other climate-related challenges. The book provides detailed, easy-to-follow information on climate-friendly garden design, wise water use, soil health and how to attract songbirds and pollinators to the garden.   It explains the importance of using native plants to create more resilient, wildlife friendly landscapes and provides suggestions for hundreds of Southeastern natives appropriate for a variety of conditions.  In addition to warning against the dangers of toxic chemicals and invasive exotic plants, it also provides a host of positive, inspiring steps gardeners can take to help become part of the solution. This is the first book focused on climate change gardening in the Southeast and one which assembles all of the practical aspects of climate-friendly gardening into one volume.
