Macedonian author Lidija Dimkovska’s novel, A Spare Life, tells the story of Zlata and Srebra, twins conjoined at the head in mid-1980s Yugoslavia. As they come of age together, they must also come to terms with the movement of history itself. The recipient of a 2013 European Union Prize for Literature, she has also been a finalist for the 2013 Best Translated Book Award. The Boston Review raves that the book is “transcendent, dizzying, and not to be missed.” Lidija is also the author of the poetry books pH Neutral History and Do Not Awaken Them With Hammers.
