Christine's Picks
Christine is a buyer and has worn many hats at Malaprop's. She’s worked in various bookstores and libraries and found her way to Asheville from PA, via Austin, Albuquerque and Italy. When not reading, she enjoys cooking, petting cats, the NYT crossword, snorkeling and gardening. Some of her favorite authors are Ursula K. Le Guin, Kelly Link, Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, and Octavia Butler.

This book brought me such joy. It's humane, funny, touching and a boisterous romp of a story to boot.

Everything stinks right now but this book will truly make you feel better. You deserve it. Your friends and family probably deserve it, too.

Jemisin deserves all of the awards that she's racked up, and more. I loved every single story in this collection!

If you are stuck at home and want to try some new recipes, why not try some dairy-free cheese? Bonus - you can order any ingredients that you don't already have in your pantry directly from the author, who has visited the store and is a lovely person.

Prince always used his turn signals. His childhood nickname was Skipper. Want more? Check out this gorgeously designed book.

Raunchy, loud feminist humor. Erin Gibson has had it with sexist b*llshit and she wants to tell you all about it.

This collection is a masterwork. Ballingrud is such a skilled and underappreciated writer (who also happens to be an Asheville local.)

A poetic and honest exploration of menopause through the lens of literature, natural history and biology.

More butthole jokes from Samantha Irby. Who doesn't love that?

A bookseller, literary murders, and even a cat! This is a great cozy read.

An extremely important work that begins with the history of dentistry and covers topics like the multi-billion dollar cosmetic procedures industry and the lack of dental insurance that so many Americans face.
