Many are familiar with Daniel Ladinsky’s renowned renderings of mystical texts by the poet Hafiz. Now, in collaboration with Nancy Owen Barton, Ladinsky captures the beauty, intimacy, and musicality of work by Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, another of Islam’s most beloved poets and spiritual thinkers. In the collection The Purity of Desire: 100 Poems of Rumi, Ladinsky and Barton explore the nuances of desire, "that universal emotion," in verse inspired by Rumi's love and admiration for his companion and spiritual teacher, Shams-e Tabriz. Daniel Ladinsky will be joined by Nancy Owen Barton for an event celebrating their new collection of Rumi’s poetry. The event is offered first on February 9 and again on February 10 (see below); Chris Rosser will provide musical accompaniment on both occasions. Tickets are $20 for each of the events, and one copy of The Purity of Desire is included with each ticket. We strongly recommend pre-ordering tickets, as seating is limited.
