For 16 years the artists- and writers-edited magazine BOMB has been producing legendary interviews between writers. Cited for their intimacy, the interviews on poetry and fiction have become historical documents: iconoclastic, humourous, and often profound. A sampling of subjects: James Merrill, John Edgar Wideman, Russell Banks, Michael Ondaatje, Jeanette Winterson, Francine Prose, Tobias Wolff, Graham Swift, Ariel Dorfman, Peter Carey, Lucy Brock-Broido; a few of their interlocutors: Caryl Philips, Patrick McGrath, and Robert Polito. By pairing writers with their peers, BOMB has reinvented the interview by focusing on issues rather than personalities, allowing for the emergence of complex and varied critical views on art and life.
